David Hockney on Artists Creating Their Environment

“What I am doing, slowly, is making my own environment, room by room, as artists do.” David Hockney. Found in Architectural Digest Magazine.

Creating my own world again in my new space in Lagunitas, CA, out in West Marin County. My whole cottage is one work of art that I keep making and refining. It’s all coming into form now. My art books, painting table, flat files, and art supplies are in my cottage’s larger central room. I just reorganized my flat files, which happily are now easier to find things in. My computer and desk now have their own tiny room with my other bookcases. Creating environment is creating yourself and your right nest that reflects and suppports you and your creative work.
